"I'm Worthy of Love Just as I Am" - Mural Proposal for CKHA

"I'm Worthy of Love Just as I Am"

Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Treatment Centre Mural for the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance

Coleman's mural concept poetically explores affirmations for victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

She abstracted cursive handwriting of the following affirmations provided by the Domestic Abuse Project MN:

"I’m worth of love just as I am"
"I am deserving of respect and patience"
"I am healing at my own pace"
"I am not defined by what happened to me"

A
bstracted affirmations are woven and layered through imagery of forget-me-not flowers, which serve as a reminder of healing affirmations to the victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Shades of teal and purple are used throughout the mural as they are associated with prevention and awareness of sexual assault and domestic violence. Warm reds symbolize determination, while the green hues represent strength, stability, and growth of survivors.
